The end of Hobbit

Goodness it's been a while since my last post.
Since 'Dawn of the planet of the Apes' released in June, I went on holiday with my wife to Germany and came back to NZ to work on the final instalment of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy.
We are in full swing animating on 'The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies' which has a few weeks until it all wraps then back home to Australia for Christmas.

More Apes goodness

Another promo still of a shot I worked on for 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'. This was one of the very first shots I animated on the movie. All hand keyed from reference of the Actors Toby Kebbell (Koba) and Andy Serkis (Caesar). Plus an amazing facial pass by Facial Lead Jack Tema.

What's been happening.

Gosh, it's been 2 months already so I thought I should at least write some sort of blog post.

Since finishing work on Peter Jacksons 2nd Hobbit instalment at the end of last year, there have been 2 significant honour's bestowed upon it. Firstly a VES award for 'Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture' for Smaug plus an Oscar nomination for 'Best Visual Effects' with the Oscar going to a very deserved 'Gravity'.

I'm feeling very fortunate to have been apart of the Animation Team on Smaug and below is video describing the basic workflow of how Smaug was created. Narrated by one of the Animation Supervisors on the project.

Cheers, Aidan.
